If Locomotion was a novel of poems, Peace, Locomotion is a novel of letters, a fact Lonnie acknowledges right from the start saying, "I still write a few poems but mostly I'm writing these letters to you, Lili. The character's motivation is his friend because he encouraged Lonnie to ask for peace.
Lonnie is Locomotion book devoted, kind brother to Lili. Or maybe she hopes that God Locomotion book hear her prayers to be with her brother, if he finds God. Lonnie's musings are bittersweet; he's happy that he and Lili have new families, but though his new family brings him joy, it also brings new worries. Mind you, I felt like Woodson was, for some reason, playing the tear card early, leaving my eyes dry and clear by the ending.
